Chairman’s Address

This has been the first season with the modification of the rules about pre-declaration of the number of rinks that will be played by each club and it seems to have been very successful. I know that the last few years have been particularly difficult for some clubs and I hope this has reduced the pressure to some extent; unfortunately, with a lack of new members and ageing membership, difficulties in some clubs are likely to continue and as a league we must try to give them every encouragement. I’d be interested to hear club views on how the scheme worked for them.

The final league positions saw Fairlight taking first place and Pett and Iden second and third places. They will each benefit from the prize money kindly donated by Judith Blincow of the Mermaid Inn; on behalf of the League I would like to thank Judith for the great amount of support she gives to the League.

Although I say it every year, I’d like to repeat my personal thank you for the great support to both the League and to me that Nigel and Terry have given. Sadly, Terry has decided to resign; I’d like you all to join me in a thank you to Terry for his work with the league especially with dealing with match results and  arranging the Sellings Cup and the presentation dinners, frustrating jobs but well done. Thank you, Terry. I am pleased to say that Derek Lawrence of Fairlight has “volunteered” to take on the role. Thank you, Derek, for stepping forward.

I set myself a target this year of visiting every club in the league. I failed abysmally because of a lack of mobility during the height of the season, and the odd holiday thrown in, I promise I will do better next year if I am still Chairman!

I wish you all a very successful season for next year.

Colin Goldsack (Chairman)
